Heritage across regions

India has many storytelling traditions, and they are not all the same kind of story. Animal fables like the Panchatantra and the Jataka tales, folk tales about historical people such as Akbar and Birbal or Tenali Raman, regional folklore, and devotional epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata each sit differently. Every story says what it is, and stories from living faith traditions are checked by people who know them before they are published.

For families, together

For parents and guardians

  • Stories are written for set age bands, so you can pick what suits your child.
  • Parents can create a free account for a few more stories. Children never sign in or give a name; a parent can add nickname profiles so each child has their own bookmarks.
  • Stars, trophies and progress stay on your own device.
  • Anonymous reading counts help us improve and you can switch them off. Suggestions happen only if a parent chooses them.

KathaKahania always opens in English, whatever language your device uses. A story appears in another language only after a fluent reviewer has approved that translation, so a language is never listed as ready before it is.
